Lesson 5.2: Musical Loops and Sound Sequences
Welcome, composers and DJs! Today, you’ll use the power of loops to create your own music. You’ll learn how to repeat sounds and rhythms to build a catchy tune, and then team up with a partner to put on a mini-concert.

Your Concert Production Plan
Finding the Beat (10 minutes)
- Let’s listen to some songs. Can you spot the parts that repeat, like the chorus or a drum beat?
- We’ll clap out some simple rhythms together to feel the beat.
- This is how music uses loops, just like in programming!
Exploring the Sound Library (15 minutes)
- Time to explore the sound blocks in Scratch Jr. What cool sounds can you find?
- Let’s practice adding sounds to a program. How can you make a sequence of different sounds?
- We’ll experiment with timing to get our rhythm just right.
Compose Your Hit Song! (20 minutes)
- Team up with a partner to become a music production duo!
- Your mission: create a short musical composition. Use loops to make a catchy, repeating beat or melody.
- Don’t forget the visuals! You can make your sprites dance to the music or change the background to match the vibe.
Time to Perform! (5 minutes)
- It’s concert time! Each duo will get to perform their musical creation for the class.
- Let’s be a great audience and cheer for our classmates.
- We’ll save our compositions to our portfolios to remember our first concert.
